Thankful for Running Water
Yesterday Guapo and I rode out to the other side of Monterrey. We were looking for areas that we can take the teams to this summer. After a long hours drive we came upon a small town. It surroundings were basically brush, and some trash. We parked the car near a little tienda (store) and proceeded to look for some who knew more about the area and if they could help direct us to a church within that area.
As we asked around for directions we had the pleasure of meeting an elderly man who had a passion for the Lord. He said that he had spent only a little time (27 years I think), being able to share the gospel with others.
To me 27 years seemed like alot because I have only lived 26years so far. For a man who has lived most of his life, I guess it would seem like so little.
So, we finished talking with him and continued down the road a ways until we can to a church building. There we meet a lady and talked to her for a bit. From there we drove around the area to get an idea of what it looked like and how big it was.
In this area many people didn't have running water. Outside of their home were either huge plastic blue barrels filled with water or giant plastic square containers of water ( you know like the gallon jugs of water that you buy that have a tap on the bottom, only these were huge).
As we drove through the town it made me wonder what it would be like to live without running water. There are times where I have down it for a few days, but never for weeks, months or years. I thought about the time where our well broke down. It was a big deal at the time and to me it made things more difficult. I couldn't wait for the well to be fixed.
Now, that I have been here for two years I have seen many people go without running water. To them the water is precious and not something that is meant to be wasted.
That is something I took for granted. driving through the little has made me thankful that I have running water, electricity, a roof over my head, and a small space that I can call mine.
May we not take granted the things the Lord has blessed us with, and our hearts continually be filled with thanks for the things that He has done and is doing.
