La Huasteca
April 5-8, 2007
A blue door on one of the local houses. Many of the homes where made out of Bamboo and Mud. I have never seen anything like this village...it was beautiful in its own way...life was simple...there way of living was simple...The people in the village spoke a language called Nahatl. Fortunately they spoke spanish as well which made things easier. During our time there some of us picked up a little bit of the language. It was awesome to see them make an attempt to speak the native language with the people.
One of the things that I loved was spending time with the locals and just talking with them, taking the time to build relationships.
Picking up trash in the little town. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot of trash to pick up. The locals keep there village quite clean.
We ate our meals under this tarped area, and slept in the pastors house and the church building (both are not pictured).
One of the many beautiful and large flowers in the area.

The local outhouse...our main bathroom for the week.

On Saturday we went to a second village that was about 3hours from the first. It was way up on the mountain...absolutely beautiful. The people here spoke a different Dialact of Nahatl. The adults could speak both languages, but the children could only speak their language and understand some spanish. I have heard about places such as this, but never had I thought that I would be able to experience this first hand.

Easter morning....the clouds had englufed the mountain top...it was kind of serene.
The turkeys taking a morning stroll about the village.

Wow! The entire village is so interesting. I'm glad you got to share with these people. And I love the shots.
